Networks have this thing called a diversity tracker where a production company collects data on their production and post-production crew about ethnicity and sexual orientation. They don’t really do anything with the data except turn it into percentages and proudly say, “Don’t worry, y’all! We’re keeping track!” The data is invasive and full of assumptions. The person I talked to said that they just look at a list of crew names and guess how “ethnic” someone is by their last name. I have no idea how they track sexual orientation, but I spent a complicated couple of minutes explaining what the “Q” in LGBTQ stands for, and that conversation gives me little hope.
I am a disabled woman.
I am pro choice.
But every time someone on MY side opens their mouths and tells stories about people aborting their disabled fetuses in order to show why we NEED abortion, I feel sick. I feel betrayed. I feel like my life isn’t worth considering.
|Me:||Oh, sorry. You have your headphones on.|
|Coworker:||Did you say something?|
|Me:||Yeah, but it wasn't important. Really.|
|Coworker:||No, tell me what you said.|
|Me:||I asked if you ever eat grapefruit.|
